How Liam Payne Reacted to Girlfriend Kate Cassidy Leaving Argentina Early
After Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy left Argentina days before his death, a video he had shared to Snapchat has resurfaced on social media showing the pair talking about her departure.
More details are coming out about Liam Payne’s final days.
The One Direction alum died at the age of 31 after suffering a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina Oct. 16 where he’d been vacationing with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy—though the 25-year-old had left for the United States days before Liam’s death.
Now, a video circulating on social media that Liam shared to his Snapchat in the days leading up to his fall is showing an inside look at his reaction to Kate’s departure.
“So it’s going to be a nice day,” he told the camera as he sat at a table, before adding to Kate, who was sitting offscreen, in a jokingly singsong voice, “then you’re going home ha ha loser, weirdo.”
Kate then intercedes, noting she’s heading home to Florida with her dog Nala, prompting Liam to share a message of support regarding the severe weather the area had suffered from the hurricanes.
“I hope everybody was okay in Milton, as well,” he said. “Quite a scary thing to watch from far away. Hope everybody was okay, and all the little dogs made it out as well. Some quite sad stories about dogs.”
He then added to Kate, “Obviously we’re gonna go home and see our dog, Nala.”
The “Strip That Down” singer and Kate then laughed over the many “random names” he has for Nala, him adding with a smile, “None of them have to do with Nala.”
For her part, Kate had shared insight into why she chose to leave Argentina ahead of Liam in a TikTok shared to her profile.
"I was so ready to leave," she shared on Oct. 14. "Honestly, love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long. And we were supposed to be there for, like, five days, turned into two weeks."
As she put it, "I was just like, ‘I need to go home.’"
While Kate hasn’t commented publicly on her boyfriend’s passing, Liam has been honored by a large number of celebrity tributes—including his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan.
In addition to sharing a joint statement shared to One Direction’s social media account, each individual member likewise shared a personal statement. And in Niall’s tribute, he reflected on having been able to see Liam about two weeks before his death when he attended Niall’s Buenos Aires show.
"I feel so fortunate that I got to see him recently,” Niall wrote. “I sadly didn't know that after saying goodbye and hugging him that evening, I would be saying goodbye forever. It's heartbreaking."
